ABOUT THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
Following a brief two-game losing skid, the Cardinals registered back-to-back wins in the final two games of a three-game set at NC State to earn a series victory in Raleigh. Louisville, which set a school record for the best start to a season with 19 straight wins, has won each of its five weekend series this season, including three straight against ACC foes.
After entering 2017 ranked in the top 12 in all six major preseason polls, the Cardinals moved to No. 1 in the nation for the first time school history on March 13 landing in the top position four national polls -- Baseball America Top 25, NCBWA Top 30, Perfect Game Top 25 and USA Today Sports coaches poll. After holding a No. 1 ranking for two weeks, UofL dropped to No. 2 this week in the five of the six national polls.Ā
Louisville is paced by junior Brendan McKay, the two-time John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year. McKay is seventh in the nation in on-base percentage at .543 while also hitting .412 with four home runs and 18 RBI. The two-time ACC Pitcher of the Week also has a 4-1 record with a 1.12 ERA and 55 strikeouts in five Friday starts on the mound. McKay has a 25-8 career record with a 1.93 ERA and 300 strikeouts as a pitcher to go with a .333 career batting average in 140 starts as a hitter.
As a team, the Cardinals are second in the nation in shutouts, second in hits allowed per 9 IP, third in ERA, Ā fourth in strikeouts per 9 IP, fifth in WHIP, ninth in on-base percentage, 11th in stolen bases, 14th in scoring, 14th in fielding percentage, 19th in batting average and 25th in slugging.
ACC ATLANTIC DIVISION RACE
Through three weeks of ACC action, the reigning back-to-back ACC Atlantic Division champions are atop the standings with an 8-1 conference mark matched only by Clemson with the same league record. Florida State and Wake Forest are two games behind the Cardinals and Tigers with 6-3 records.
ABOUT THE WESTERN KENTUCKY HILLTOPPERS
Western Kentucky enters the week at 9-16 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA after winning two of three at Middle Tennessee last weekend. In their first season under head coach John Pawlowski in 2016, the Hilltoppers were 24-30 overall and 10th in C-USA with a 10-20 record.

MCKAY EARNS BACK-TO-BACK ACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Brendan McKay was named ACC Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks on March 13 and March 20. The first of the two honors came after McKay had a career-high 15 strikeouts while allowing only two hits in seven shutout innings against Pitt on March 10. The 15 strikeouts were two better than McKay's previous high of 13 and the outing marked the 20th time he has finished with eight or more strikeouts in a single game.
The second Pitcher of the Week honor came after McKay finished with 12 strikeouts and scattered five singles with one walk in seven shutout innings to move to 4-0 on the season in a win over Boston College. The Darlington, Pennsylvania native anchored the sixth shutout of the season for the No. 1 Cardinals.
LOUISVILLE IN NATIONAL POLLS EVERY WEEK SINCE BEGINNING OF 2012
Louisville, which surpassed its previous high national ranking of No. 2 (in 2016) with the No. 1 ranking on March 13 and March 20, has enjoyed a historic run by remaining in at least one of the major national polls every week since the release of the 2012 preseason rankings -- the longest such span in school history. Since opening the gates at Jim Patterson Stadium in 2005, the Cardinals have won more than 77 percent of their games in the ballpark posting a 329-93 record (.779 winning percentage), including an impressive 36-3 mark during the 2016 season at the corner of Third and Central.Ā
NCBWA NAMES MCKAY NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY
Brendan McKay was named National Player of the Month for February by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. McKay had a prolific month, both at the plate and on the mound. In seven games, McKay hit .619 (13-for-21) with a double, three homers and 11 RBI. He had six walks, was hit by two pitches and struck out just once. In two Friday starts, McKay posted wins and a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings. He allowed only six hits and four walks, striking out 14.
