LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 11 Louisville men's soccer team will conclude the regular season with a road match at No. 4 Clemson on Friday at 7 p.m., ET at Riggs Field. A win by either side would clinch a first round bye and a quarterfinal home game in the 2017 ACC Championship. Friday's match will be televised on ACC Network Extra, while live stats can be accessed at GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville is 10-2-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the ACC following last Friday's 3-2 home loss to NC State. Louisville, ranked 11th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and 20th in the Soccer America Top 25, had its nine-match unbeaten streak halted with the loss. Senior Mohamed Thiaw leads the Cardinals with eight goals this season, while junior Tate Schmitt has six goals overall. Junior Adam Wilson has a team-leading six assists, while senior Tim Kubel has four assists on the season to go with five goals.

Clemson enters the match at 11-3-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the ACC after last Friday's 2-1 victory at Syracuse. The Tigers, ranked as highly as No. 4 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, have won three straight matches and are led by Diego Campos, who has team highs in goals (eight) and assists (eight). Last season, Clemson was 14-4-5 overall and 4-1-3 in the ACC before ending its campaign with a 1-0 loss to Denver in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 NCAA Championship.Â

Louisville opened 2017 ranked as high as No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.

The Cardinals enter the week ranked in the top 40 in the NCAA in six different team statistical categories. Louisville is sixth in the nation in shutout percentage (0.600), 17th in team goals against average (0.699), 35th in total goals (27), 35th in scoring offense (1.8 goals per game), 38th in points per game (5.07) and 39th in total points (76). The Cardinals also lead the ACC in shutout percentage. Individually, Mohamed Thiaw is ranked 27th in the nation and third in the ACC with his three game-winning goals.
KUBEL NAMED FINALIST FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Tim Kubel was named Oct. 12 among 10 finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate men's soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately at www.seniorCLASSaward.com to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 20. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships later this fall.
A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Kubel has started 74 matches in his four years at Louisville, including 11 this season for the No. 5 Cardinals. Kubel has accumulated 20 career goals and 23 assists overall, including five goals and four assists in 2017. In the classroom, Kubel has a 3.688 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance with a minor in marketing.
During his junior season in 2016, Kubel was an NSCAA Second Team All-America selection and was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist after scoring three goals and matching a school record with 11 assists while starting all 22 matches at right back. He was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI First Team, All-ACC First Team, ACC Championship All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team. In 2015, he earned All-ACC First Team honors, while in 2014, Kubel was named ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC Second Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team.
