Cards finish seventh in 800-free relay
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team had their second-best time in school history in the 800-free relay in their first outing at the NCAA Men's Championship this evening at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech. The Cards are in seventh place after one event.
With just one event contested on the first day of competition, the Cardinals were seventh in the 800-free relay with a time of 6:15.86. The foursome of Trevor Carroll (1:33.68), Matthias Lindenbauer (1:34.04), Grigory Tarasevich (1:33.76) and Zach Harting (1:34.38) finished just behind the school record of 6:14.96 that was set at the ACC Championships on Feb. 24. The event was won by Texas with an NCAA record time of 6:08.03.
"Good first session," said Louisville head coach Arthur Albiero. "Our first top-eight finish in school history in the 800-free relay. The guys executed their race plan very well and we are thrilled with the way we started the meet. Now we get ready to battle in the next session."
Tomorrow's slate includes the 200 Free Relay, the 500 Free, the 200 IM, the 50 Free, the 400 Medley Relay and 1-M Diving and preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
A total of 322 participants (281 swimmers and 41 divers) will compete in the championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.
Every session of the four-day meet will be streamed live online. ESPN3 will carry the finals on Friday and Saturday, with Rich Burk on play-by-play and Rowdy Gaines and Cynthia Potter providing commentary.
