Louisville Falls in First Game of Saturday Doubleheader

Sophomore Drew Harrington worked 3.2 innings of shutout relief with four strikeouts.
EMERSON, Ga. - The No. 7 Louisville baseball team opened a Saturday doubleheader against Arkansas State with a 4-1 loss at Perfect Game Park South and LakePoint Sporting Community.
Sophomore righty Tyler Zuber pitched eight shutout innings allowing just two hits and striking out three to earn the victory for the Red Wolves (4-1), who clinched the weekend series against the Cardinals (2-3) with the victory. The loss marked the first non-conference series loss for Louisville since dropping two of three to Xavier on March 18-20, 2011.
For the second straight game between the two teams, Arkansas State struck first plating a run in the second inning on Saturday when third baseman Tanner Ring connected for a one-out, solo home run to left field for the 1-0 lead. The shot to left narrowly cleared the glove of outfielder Mike White (Salisbury, N.J.), who leaped at the wall and just missed on a home run-robbing grab.
Two innings later, the Red Wolves added to the advantage with a three-run frame against Louisville junior righty Anthony Kidston (Defiance, Ohio). Outfielder Ty White started the scoring with a two-run double to right center to plate second baseman Joe Schrimpf and shortstop Jeremy Brown. Later in the inning, outfielder Tim Seldomridge, who reached base with a bunt single and took second on a wild pitch, scored on a throwing error by Kidston on a pickoff attempt at first for the 4-0 cushion.
Louisville's first real scoring threat of the game came in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases with one out after a walk to first baseman Danny Rosenbaum (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), a single by senior shortstop Sutton Whiting (New Wilmington, Pa.) and a sophomore second baseman Nick Solak (Woodridge, Ill.) being hit by a pitch. However, the chance was halted when sophomore outfielder Corey Ray (Chicago, Ill.) sent a liner to Schrimpf at second, who caught it cleanly and flipped to Brown at shortstop for an inning-ending double-play.
The Cardinals broke through for their only run of the game in the ninth inning when sophomore catcher Will Smith (Louisville, Ky.) delivered a one-out RBI single to left to score Ray. However, that was as close as Louisville would get as a pop-up and a strikeout ended the game. Kidston was charged with the loss for Louisville and dropped to 0-1 on the season after allowing three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 4.1 innings pitched.
One highlight for the Cardinals came with the performance from sophomore lefty Drew Harrington (Elizabethtown, Ky.), who struck out four in 3.2 innings of shutout relief to keep Louisville close. In two appearances out of the bullpen this season, Harrington has 13 strikeouts while allowing just three hits in eight shutout innings.
