LOUISVILLE, Ky. - FieldTurf will install its second playing surface at the University of Louisville in the coming weeks. Louisville's Jim Patterson Stadium will receive FieldTurf from the industry's leader in synthetic playing surfaces after Papa John's Cardinal Stadium received new turf in early May.
The Cardinals have utilized the FieldTurf playing surface for a decade.
"We have had FieldTurf on our game fields for many years and can honestly say that FieldTurf is the highest performing turf system we have ever played on - both for football and baseball," Louisville Vice-President and Director of Athletics Tom Jurich said. "The FieldTurf CoolPlay system offers a cooler playing surface to improve the safety of our players for football. Also, we feel the FieldTurf DoublePlay Classic baseball system plays more like a natural ball field than anything else we have seen."
"FieldTurf has provided a top-level playing surface at Jim Patterson Stadium since the ballpark opened in 2005 and we couldn't be more excited about the latest resurfacing project for the future of our program," Louisville baseball head coach Dan McDonnell said. "The FieldTurf surface has a proven track record for consistency, dependability, and year-around accessibility and, we're confident the new DoublePlay Classic system will display an even higher level of playability for our players."
Jim Patterson Stadium will have the baseball-specific DoublePlay Classic system installed, which has been carefully designed to emulate the very best natural grass ball fields through proper ball bounce, ball pace, and player-friendly playability.
FieldTurf is changing the way the baseball community perceives artificial turf - with its specialized DoublePlay turf systems driving surface innovation throughout every level of baseball. The Cardinals join an impressive list of over 25 NCAA Division I teams that play and/or practice on FieldTurf DoublePlay baseball turf systems.
"This has been an outstanding product for our football team over the years," Louisville head football coach Charlie Strong said. "It's a great surface for the players and they really enjoy competing on it each week. We installed a new turf this season and I am pleased with the design and the feel of the new surface."
Papa John's Cardinal Stadium had the innovative FieldTurf Revolution CoolPlay system installed in early May. Combined with FieldTurf's patented infill of cryogenic rubber and silica sand, this system features FieldTurf's exclusive cork top dressing, which allows the CoolPlay system to deliver the same behavior and overall stability as FieldTurf's elite system fields found in the world's most famous stadiums. CoolPlay was designed to reduce the heat without any reduction in performance.
FieldTurf's safety, performance, and durability levels have proven to be ideal for the sport of football with more than 100 Division I schools playing and/or practicing on FieldTurf.
"It's always gratifying when a long-time customer like the University of Louisville expresses the desire to continue their relationship with our company and continue playing on our systems," FieldTurf President Eric Daliere said. "Everyone at FieldTurf is completely committed to providing Cardinal athletics and their fans with the absolute best world-class surfaces in existence."
