
Women's Soccer Announces Annual Awards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team recently held its annual winter banquet on campus at the University Club, handing out awards for the 2006 fall season - the most successful in school history.
Junior goalkeeper Joanna Haig was named team Most Valuable Player. The Soccer Buzz fourth team All-American, in her first season with the Cardinals after transferring from Iowa State, established a school record with her 0.49 GAA and did not allow a goal over the final 376 minutes of the season.
Haig posted eight shutouts for the season, tying the single season school record, despite not playing in the first four matches of the season.
A member of the All-Region second team last season and the All-Region freshman team in 2004, she competed with the US Soccer U-20 National Team last fall at the 2006 FIFA Women's World Championship in Russia and attended the US Soccer under 21 National Team camp this past February in Carson, California at the Home Depot Center. Haig was honorable mention All-BIG EAST.
Junior Erica Robinson was honored with the Coaches Award, an honor presented to the student athlete who has demonstrated a commitment to academics and athletics though her dedication, hard work, perseverance and positive attitude. Robinson played in 16 games, starting three.
The Louisville Manual HS graduate played up front, in the back and at midfield during the season, and her header in the 87th minute clinched a 2-1 win over St. John's in BIG EAST play.
Amy Seng received the Cardinal Award, which is presented to a student athlete who maintains a 3.0 GPA, displays strong leadership abilities, and takes tremendous pride in representing the University of Louisville as well as the community.
Seng started all 77 matches in her career - more than anyone in school history, and played every minute of every game with the exception of one, missing 24 minutes during a contest her junior season.
She was one of 11 student athletes nationally named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® women's soccer First Team. The senior from Centennial, Colorado has a 3.96 GPA in sport administration with a minor in business administration.
Seng was part of a senior class that established or tied 15 school records, including wins in a single season with a record 13 this season and career wins with 43.
The Strength and Conditioning Award was presented to Seng and sophomore Jessica Mello. The pair of backs beat out their teammates in a competition constructed by women's soccer strength and conditioning coach Teena Murray.
Seng was also selected as one of three recipients, chosen from the entire athletic student body, of the third annual National City Bank Postgraduate Scholarships. She earned a post graduate scholarship honoring graduating U of L student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom and in competition while demonstrating positive character and citizenship.
The most successful season in University of Louisville women's soccer history concluded with the team ranking 24th in the final NSCAA/adidas poll. The Cards posted a school record 13 wins and a .725 winning percentage, also tops in Cardinal history.
The success for the team did not end on the field as the Cardinals posted a 3.31 team GPA for the Fall 2006 semester.
Louisville with finish their spring campaign with home matches on Saturday March 24th vs. Evansville and Saturday April 7th vs. Eastern Kentucky. Both are set to kickoff at 4:00 p.m. ET at Cardinal Park.
