LOUISVILLE, KY - More than 1500 fans packed Cardinal Park to watch the University of Louisville women's soccer team host the 2003 WUSA champion Washington Freedom Friday night.
The Freedom picked up two goals from midfielder Jaqui Little in a 6-0 win over the Cardinals.
"After the first 20 minutes, the team settled down and began to play better together," noted assistant coach Carole Dutchka.
"We began to play defensively as a unit. This was a great experience for our ladies to compete against this level of competition," added Dutchka.
Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson is currently in China assisting the United States U-21 National Team.
Abby Wambach trickled a header into the goal in the fifth minute to give the Freedom a 1-0 advantage.
Little scored her first goal of the match off a cross from Lori Lindsey at 13:50.
Meredith Beard headed in a rebound off a shot by Heather Mitts at 21:50 making it 3-0 freedom, and a little over seven minutes later Lindsey headed in a cross by Casey Zimny, ending the scoring in the first half.
Little and Laura Schott closed out the scoring in the 73rd and 80th minutes.
The Cards had a few scoring chances in the second half, the best of which came on a rocket off the left foot of Ashley Garcia in the 86th minute that glanced off the crossbar.
Lisa Martin, Jamie Craft, Liz Kinny, Gina Lower and Lindsay Scheer each had a shot for the Cards.
Meredith Miller made six saves, including a point blank stop of a Wambach attempt in the fourth minute.
The Cards will continue its spring season on April 4th in Bloomington in a tourney that will match them up with Indiana University, Miami(OH) and Marquette.
Louisville will return home April 21st when they host Cincinnati to close out the spring slate. Game-time is 8:00 p.m. and admission is free at Cardinal Park.
