
Women's Soccer Team Wins Indiana State Tournament

TERRE HAUTE, IN - The University of Louisville women's soccer team went 4-0-1 and outscored opponents 15-4 on its way to winning the Indiana State University 7v7 Tournament over the weekend.
"Today was a complete team effort. We competed the entire day and we were focused on what we had to do in each game," noted Head Coach Karen Ferguson
"We put the pressure on the opponents defense and were able to score some outstanding goals. I am extremely proud of every one of our players because they all played a vital role in the success we had today," Ferguson added.
Gina Lower, Mandy Rost, Ashley Garcia and Heather Orahood each scored in the opening game of the tournament, a 4-1 win over Indiana State, and Rost's two goals clinched a 2-2 tie against Xavier in game two.
In a match-up with IPFW, the Cardinals needed a shutout and at least three goals to help guarantee a spot in the finals, and Lisa Martin stepped up with a hat trick, as Angie Gangel tallied the shutout. Rost added her fourth goal of the tournament for 4-0 win.
Goalkeeper Lyndsay Seibert provided a number of point-blank saves, and notched a shutout of her own in game four, as Lower and Martin each scored for a 2-0 win over Evansville, putting U of L in the championship game.
In the title game, Lower scored twice and Martin connected for her team-high fifth goal of the tournament to lift Louisville to a 3-1 win over host Indiana State.
The spring schedule continues, when the Cardinals will play at the University of Evansville on Saturday, April 5th . Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. ET. On April 13th the team will return to Cardinal Park to play Murray State, Dayton Soccer Academy, and Kentucky ODP 86's. The Cards finish their spring season on April 16th with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff against Javanon.
