Louisville Drops ACC Opener to Notre Dame

Louisville (12-6, 0-1 ACC) had its five-game winning streak snapped with the loss, and suffered its first loss in an ACC opener in 12 years in the conference.
The Cardinals scored the game's first six runs on Friday night.
Lucas Moore led off the first with a single before stealing second and moving to third on a fly out. A strikeout accounted for Louisville's second out of the inning, but Moore scampered home on the throw to first trying to complete the strikeout for the opening run.
Ethan Eberle worked three scoreless to start the night and the offense broke it open in the bottom half of the third.
A single, error and walk loaded the bases with nobody out and Zion Rose laced a single into left to bring in one. Tague Davis followed with a single through the right side that drove home two and added to his national-leading RBI total.
Griffin Crain kept the scoring going with an RBI bunt single and Ben Slanker capped off the five-run frame with a run-scoring groundout.
Eberle and the Cardinals ran into trouble after the long offensive inning though.
Notre Dame (11-4, 3-1) sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring 10 runs without recording an out to take a 10-6 lead.
Louisville punched back in the bottom half, getting a two-run homer from Rose to cut the deficit in half.
The Cardinals were kept off the board over the next four innings, while Notre Dame added single runs in each inning from the sixth through the ninth.
The Cards got three runs across in the ninth but left the tying run in the on-deck circle.
Rose was 4-for-6 on the night with five RBIs, continuing his strong showing since returning from injury. Four other Cardinals finished with a pair of hits.
Louisville and Notre Dame match up again on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET with television coverage on the ACC Network.
