Comeback Comes Up Just Short for Cardinals
May 13, 2025 | Baseball
Louisville lost 10-9 on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (34-18) trailed 9-2 in the sixth inning, but its comeback effort came up a run short. The loss was just the fifth this season for the Cardinals at home.
The Cardinals jumped on the board quickly on Tuesday night with Garret Pike and Jake Munroe each picking up first inning RBIs. However, the Cards would be kept off the board for the next four innings.
Meanwhile, Bellarmine (14-38) tied the game with two runs in the third and moved in front with a five spot in the fourth.
A one-hour lightning delay paused the game in the middle of the fifth, and the Knights tacked on two more runs to their lead in the sixth inning after the resumption.
The Cardinals started their rally back in the sixth. Bayram Hot singled home Tague Davis and Nate Earley came off the bench and hit a two-run homer to bring Louisville within four.
Bellarmine got one of the runs back in the seventh to stretch the margin back to five, but Louisville had another charge coming.
Lucas Moore brought home a run in the eighth with an infield single, and a throwing error allowed a second run to score on the play. Zion Rose followed it up with a missile to the berm in left-center that made it a 10-9 game.
Louisville got two more runners on in the eighth but left them on the bases.
Down to the final out in the ninth, Kamau Neighbors kept the Cardinals alive with a triple over the centerfielder's head. Moore then hit the very next pitch to the wall in centerfield, but the defender made the catch crashing into the wall to end the game.
Five different Cardinals had multiple hits on the night with Earley and Rose driving in two apiece.
Louisville closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Wake Forest that begins at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
