Petrashov Swims to National Runnerup in 100 Breast, Cards Move to 16th

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Louisville men's swimming & diving team set a school record at the Day 3 finals of the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Â

The Cardinals are in 16th place with 53 points after three days of racing. Texas took the lead with 368, ahead of California (312.5), Indiana (304), Florida (233), and Georgia (177.5) to round out the top five.

Denis Petrashov had a blazing final lap to touch second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 50.27 in the championship final to reset his own school record. Florida's Julian Smith was the only sub-50 finalist with a 49.55 to win the national title.
Senior Tommy Bried finished sixth in the consolation final in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 3:40.85 to score for the Cardinals and place 12th overall and earn honorable mention All-American honors. The event was won by top-seeded Rex Maurer of Texas, who went 3:34.00, the fifth fastest time ever.

In the 400 medley relay, the Cardinals put up a 3:01.97 as the second fastest time in school history. Dalton Lowe led off the backstroke leg with a split of 45.25 to hand over sixth place to Denis Petrashov, who went 50.24 and put the Cardinals in the lead after the breaststroke leg. Next in the water was flyer Rian Graham, who went 45.06 and handed over second place to anchor Guy Brooks, who went 41.42 to shave three full seconds off the Cards' entry time and earn HM All-American honors. Â The event was won by Florida as the Gators went 2:56.10.
The Cards are back in action Saturday morning with the 200 Backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 Breaststroke, the 200-yard Butterfly, Platform Diving, the 1,650-yard Freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay on the program.
