
Cardinals Move to Seventh After Day 3 at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Louisville Cardinals moved to seventh place after the third day of racing at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium Friday evening on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The Virginia Cavaliers maintained their hold on the top spot with 360.5 points followed by Texas (319), Florida (267), Tennessee (185), Stanford (175), Southern California (157), Louisville (136), Indiana (136) NC State (114) and California (110) rounding out the top ten.

The Cardinals put up a 3:29.11 in the 400 Medley Relay to finish ninth. Paige Hetrick (51.85) swam the backstroke leg, followed by Kim Herkle;s breaststroke leg (59.52). Gabi Albiero swam the fly leg in 50.51 taking the Cards from eighth to fourth and then Christiana Regenauer improved their standing to second with an anchor of 47.23 in the heat. The event was won by Virginia which ran away with the final, posting an NCAA record of  3:21.01, a full three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.Â

The Cardinals went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly in the B-final to earn HM All-American honors. Christiana Regenauer was first after hitting the wall in 51.05. Teammate Gabi Albiero was second, turning in a 51.10. The championship was won by Gretchen Walsh of Virginia, who set an NCAA, American. Meet, and US Open record with a 47.42 breaking her own mark from the ACC Championships a month ago.

In the 200 freestyle, Louisville's Paige Hetrick finished sixth in the B-final, boarding a 1:43.98.
