
Cards Set School Record On Day 1 at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- After the first night of racing, the University of Louisville broke a school record and is in 12th place at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Indiana Natatorium.

 Murilo Sartori split 1:31.68, followed by Guy Brooks 1:31.33, Denis Loktev (1:32.19) and Gustavo Saldo anchored in 1:33.12 to combine for a school record 6:08.32 to touch 7th overall. The event was won by California when the Bears set an NCAA, Meet, U.S. Open Record with the time of 6:02.26.

Florida and Cal (70) are tied for first followed by Arizona State (68), Indiana (52), NC State (50), Texas (50), Stanford (46), Georgia (34), Auburn (30), Virginia Tech (28), Tennessee (28), Louisville (24), Michigan (18), Missouri (12), Alabama (14) and Florida State (10) to round out the top 15.

The Cardinals return to the pool tomorrow to compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 1-meter diving.

 The University of Louisville has nine swimmers and three relay alternates in the field. Tommy Bried, Guy Brooks, Denis Loktev, Dalton Lowe, Jackson Millard, Denis Petrashov, Gustavo Saldo, Murilo Sartori and Ilia Sibirtsev have qualified in individual events.  Matias Santiso, Charlie Crush and Vladimir Dubinin will serve as relay alternates. The Cardinals also qualified all five relay events.
