Cardinals Welcome St. John’s for Three-Game Series

The weekend series begins Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team will play St. John's in a three-game series that gets underway on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, while the final two games of the series will begin at 1 p.m. ET. All three games will be televised on ACC Network Extra and can be heard on 970 WGTK.
SLUGGING PAST BUTLER
The Cardinals launched four home runs as part of a 16-hit attack in a 15-11 victory over Butler on Wednesday. Louisville entered the day with four homers through the first six games before matching their season total in the win.
FORMER BIG EAST FOES CLASH
Louisville and St. John's will step on the diamond against each other this weekend for just the second time in non-conference action. The two met annually as members of the Big East from 2007-13.
ST. JOHN'S SERIES HISTORY
Louisville trails the all-time series against the Red Storm with St. John's holding a 15-13 edge overall. The Cardinals are 8-4 against St. John's at home, including a three-game sweep in 2016 when these two programs last met.

The Louisville offensive attack has come out hot to start the 2025 season. The Cardinals have outscored the opposition 66-36 through seven games, averaging just shy of 10 runs per contest.
Heading into the third weekend of action, Louisville ranks seventh nationally with a .359 batting average, sixth with five triples and 12th with a .565 slugging percentage.
The trio of Zion Rose, Matt Klein and Jake Munroe have led the way in the middle of the order, combining to hit .437 (38-for-87) with 12 extra-base hits and 23 RBIs.

- Louisville pitchers have struck out nine or more hitters in six of seven games this season and rank 19th in the country in strikeouts-per-nine innings at 11.6.
- The Louisville offense has tallied double digit hits in five of seven games to start the season, going 5-0 in those contests. The Cards notched at least 10 hits 29 times in 2024, posting a 22-7 mark when doing so.
- Louisville hitters have kept their strikeouts to a minimum on the homestand, striking out just 10 times total in four games.
PLAYER NOTES
- Jake Munroe has acclimated himself well to playing at Louisville. The junior college All-American has at least one hit in all seven games to start his UofL career and enters the weekend with a streak of five consecutive multi-hit games. Munroe is currently third in the ACC with a .464 batting average.
- Zion Rose was a freshman All-American in 2024 after hitting .380, the top mark of any Power Five freshman during the regular season. He has started the 2025 season by picking up right where he left off. Through seven games, Rose is hitting .433 with three doubles, two home runs and a team-leading 11 RBIs.
- Matt Klein had a breakout summer in the Cape Cod League that saw him hit .375 for the Cotuit Kettleers. His hitting ways have continued to start the spring, as he has recorded multiple hits in five of the first seven games.
- Patrick Forbes has been dominant in his first two starts of 2025. The right-hander has surrendered just two runs over 10 innings, striking out 20 batters to just one walk. Opponents have managed just seven hits against Forbes, who is currently tied for the ACC lead in strikeouts.
- Brennyn Cutts has been lights out through his first two appearances in a Louisville uniform. The 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year has allowed just two baserunners in 4.2 scoreless innings across a pair of relief appearances. Cutts earned his first victory at Louisville with 3.2 shutout frames against Western Michigan on Monday.
- Jack Brown has been outstanding to begin his collegiate career. The freshman has seven scoreless innings under his belt after recording eight outs for the win on Wednesday against Butler.
