Davis Homer Walks Off St. John’s
February 28, 2025 | Baseball
Louisville won 8-6 in Friday’s series opener.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tague Davis sent a ball over the centerfield wall to give the University of Louisville baseball team an 8-6 walk-off victory over St. John's on Friday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Davis stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth and the game tied at six and launched the first pitch he saw to straightaway center for his third home run of the season.
The home run completed a comeback for the Cardinals, who rallied back from 6-0 down with eight unanswered runs for their second walk-off win of the year.
Louisville (7-1) fell behind after allowing six runs in the second inning on a trio of defensive miscues.
From there, the Cardinals began to chip away at the deficit. Jake Munroe led off the second inning with his first home run in a Louisville uniform and Kamau Neighbors picked up a RBI single in the fourth to cut the margin to four.
The game held at 6-2 until the seventh, when the Louisville bats came alive. Munroe singled home Lucas Moore for the third run and Davis delivered a two-out, two-run single to get the Cardinals back within a run.
In the eighth, Alex Alicea led off with a single and was still standing on third with two outs, but a wild pitch allowed him to race home for the tying run.
After giving up six unearned runs in the second, the Louisville pitching staff shut down the scoring.
Patrick Forbes worked five innings without allowing an earned run, striking out 10. TJ Schlageter worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Brennyn Cutts (2-0) slammed the door shut with zeros in the eighth and ninth.
Davis finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBIs, driving in the last four runs for the Cardinals.
Louisville and St. John's will continue the weekend series with game two on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
