Betsy Huckaby scored the game’s only goal in the opening minutes
NEWTON, Mass. — The Louisville women's soccer team (11-3-1, 4-2-1 ACC) picked up another clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Boston College (4-6-5, 0-5-2 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Newton Soccer Field. The Cards scored in the opening minutes of the game and didn't look back en route to their 11th win of the season.
Betsy Huckaby put the Cardinals up early after scoring at the 2:30 mark of the first half. That goal was all the Cards needed as Erynn Floyd made three saves on the afternoon and did not allow Boston College to level the game. It is the 10th shutout of the season for the Cardinals as they have allowed just 10 goals in their 15 games this season.
Huckaby was at the right spot at the right time to get the Cards on the board in the third minute of the match. She fired a shot from outside the box after getting to a loose ball and curled it inside the left post and under the bar for the goal. It is her third goal of the season and put the Cards up 1-0.
Boston College looked to equalize in the 19th minute coming off a corner kick. After the corner was deflected to the top of the box, the Eagles had a point blank shot on goal that was saved away by Floyd. The Eagles got to the rebound and put another shot on net but Floyd was able to make the save and keep the Cards ahead.
Cards took the 1-0 lead into the half. The Cardinals held a 13-3 shot advantage and 6-2 shot on goal advantage over the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Louisville defense stood tall and allowed just four shots and only one made it on frame. Floyd was able to make the save for her third of the afternoon to close out the win for the Cards and collect her eighth shutout of the season.
Louisville returns home and one of the best teams in the country awaits them next weekend. The Cardinals will host No. 1 Virginia on Saturday, October 18 from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. It will be Senior Night as the eight seniors will be honored prior to the game. The two teams will square off at 5 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
