Gongora, Corbett Selected in 2024 MLB Draft

Gongora was taken by the Baltimore Orioles, while Corbett was picked by the Tampa Bay Rays.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program had a pair of players selected on Tuesday during the final day of the 2024 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Sebastian Gongora was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 11th round with the 339th overall pick, while Kaleb Corbett was taken 606th overall in the 20th round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Gongora served as the Friday night starter for the Cardinals in his lone season in a Louisville uniform. The Wright State transfer went 5-4 with a 6.14 ERA in 15 starts, leading the team with 89 strikeouts and 77.2 innings pitched.
Gongora turned in a pair of double-digit strikeout performances, punching out 10 over six innings against Youngstown State and then earning ACC Pitcher of the Week honors following an 11-strikeout performance over seven one-run innings against NC State.
Corbett wrapped up his fourth season in a Louisville uniform this spring. The Louisville native threw 104.1 innings during his collegiate career, posting a 5-3 overall record with seven saves.
Corbett set career highs as a senior with 32 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts, upping his career strikeout total to 116.
