Cardinals Rally to Walk-Off Lipscomb
March 13, 2024 | Baseball
Louisville picked up an 8-7 win in 10 innings on Wednesday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Playing in front of over 2,500 kids on its annual Elementary School Day, the University of Louisville baseball team walked off with an 8-7 victory in 10 innings over Lipscomb at Jim Patterson Stadium.

JT Benson stepped to the plate with two on and one out in the 10th inning and dropped a single into right-centerfield, sending Isaac Humphrey home and giving the Cards the walk-off win.

Louisville (12-5) has now won 12 out of 13 games heading into the start of ACC play. The Cardinals will host Virginia Tech in their first conference action of the year this weekend. The series gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.

The Cardinals had to battle from behind on Wednesday after giving up five runs over the first two innings.

Louisville got its first run on a Dylan Hoy single in the second but found itself down 6-1 in the middle of the fifth.

A Lucas Moore bunt forced a wild throw that brought home Hoy for the second run of the day in the fifth and Logan Beard cut it to a two-run game with a two-run homer in the sixth.

A solo home run for Lipscomb (3-13) pushed the lead back out to three in the seventh before Ryan McCoy brought the Cardinals back within one with a two-run shot off the batter's eye in the eighth.

Trailing 7-6 heading to the ninth, Brandon Anderson led off with a double into the left-centerfield gap. However, a strikeout and groundout left the tying run on third with the Cardinals down to their final out.

Eddie King Jr. would deliver though, lining a 1-0 pitch into right field to tie the game up at seven. McCoy followed with a single that put runners on the corners, but a strikeout sent the game to extras.

The Louisville bullpen kept the Cardinals in the game after a rough start to the day. Ty Starke, Justin West, Dan Snyder, Jared Lessman and Kaleb Corbett combined to allow two earned over nine innings.

Hoy and McCoy each tallied three hits as part of a 16-hit attack for the Cardinals. Moore, Anderson, King and Gavin Kilen each added two hits of their own.
