Louisville Hosts Eastern Kentucky for Midweek Contest

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team will play host to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium. The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra with radio coverage available on 970 WGTK.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals enter Tuesday on a three-game winning streak after dropping their first four games of the season. Louisville won the final three games of the series against St. Bonaventure, outscoring the Bonnies 54-16 in the three wins.
Louisville ranks among the top offenses in the ACC through seven games, ranking in the league's top five in batting average, doubles, hit by pitch, hits, on base percentage, stolen bases and triples.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Eastern Kentucky will meet for the 124th time on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals are 73-49-1 all-time against the Colonels and 21-2 during Dan McDonnell's tenure. The two teams have met in all but four seasons dating back to 1980.
Six Louisville pitchers combined to shutout the Colonels last February in an 11-0 UofL victory. Kade Grundy retired all nine batters he faced for the win. Patrick Forbes hit the first two home runs of his career and drove in three.

The Louisville roster features 11 seniors and seven juniors, but it has been members of its freshmen class that have been leading the way offensively.
Alex Alicea, Lucas Moore and Zion Rose have combined to start 13 games so far this season, including each of the last three against St. Bonaventure.
The freshmen trio is hitting .380 (19-for-50) with five doubles, a home run, 17 runs scored and 16 RBIs.

- Louisville has an .822 winning percentage (157-34) in regular season non-conference games since the start of 2016, including a 128-17 (.883) mark in regular season non-conference home games.
- The Cardinals scored 54 runs over the final three games of the series against St. Bonaventure, including at least 15 in all three. It was the first time the Cardinals have scored 15 or more runs in three consecutive games under Dan McDonnell, having last done it April 8-11, 1995.
- Fourteen different Cardinals have made their Louisville debuts this season, including nine collegiate debuts.
PLAYER NOTES
- JT Benson has been the steadiest hitter in the Louisville lineup this season. The senior has reached base in all six games he's played, extending his reached base streak to 19 games dating back to last season. Benson leads the Cards with a .471 average and is third in the ACC with five stolen bases.
- Matt Klein had his freshman season cut short in 2023 due to injury, but has been strong in his return in 2024. The sophomore is hitting .412 through his first six games and is second on the team with six RBIs.
- Lucas Moore drew the Opening Day start in left field against Indiana State, becoming the first Louisville true freshman to start on Opening Day since Tyler Fitzgerald in 2017. The Cincinnati native has been a menace at the plate and on the basepaths, hitting .409 in seven games and ranking second in the ACC with six stolen bases.
- Luke Napleton led all of Division II in home runs (29) and RBIs (87) in 2023 at Quincy University. His offensive production has come with him to Louisville through his first six games, as he's hitting .409 with five extra-base hits and a team-leading seven RBIs.
- Alex Alicea started all four games of the St. Bonaventure series at second base. The switch-hitter showed offensive prowess from both sides of the plate in the series, going 3-for-6 with a double and four RBIs from the right side and 3-for-9 with two doubles and two RBIs from the left. Alicea is Louisville's first switch hitter since Sutton Whiting (2012-15).
- Brandon Anderson missed the first three games due to injury, but returned to the lineup for the St. Bonaventure series. In his three starts, Anderson went 5-for-10 at the plate with eight RBIs, including a career high five in the 15-2 win on Saturday.
