LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team returns home for a non-conference matchup against Lipscomb on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville played to a 3-3 draw at Cal on Thursday. Gage Guerra recorded his first brace of the season and third of his Louisville career with two first-half tallies. TJ Kahoalii added his first collegiate goal in the second half.
The Cardinals have recorded consecutive draws for the first time since Oct. 24 and 28, 2014 when they played back-to-back scoreless matches against Clemson and SIUE. Louisville has not had three straight draws since the 2007 season.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Lipscomb have met just two times previously, with each team winning once. Lipscomb won the last meeting 3-2 in October of 2018. The two teams did play preseason exhibition matches before the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
EXAMINING LOUISVILLE STATISTICAL TRENDS
Here are some of the statistical trends for the Cards through 10 matches:
GUERRA AMONG NATION'S TOP ACTIVE GOAL SCORERS IN 2024
Senior forward Gage Guerra has been one of the best goal scorers in the country during his college career.
Guerra tallied 15 goals in two seasons at Army before transferring to Louisville in 2023. He then immediately made his presence felt in The Ville with six goals in his first five matches. However, injuries derailed his junior season, limiting him to just seven tallies on the year.
The Houston native got off to a hot start for the 2024 season, scoring in each of the first two matches and scoring three more times in the last two matches. Guerra now has 27 career goals, the 10th-most in Division I among active players.
FRESHMEN CLASS MAKING HUGE IMPACT
Louisville returned five starters and 12 players overall from the 2023 squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Those returners have been huge for the Cards through 10 matches with Gage Guerra, Sander Roed, Ethan Subachan and Josh Jones combining for 29 of Louisville's 51 points.
However, the freshmen class is making its mark as well. Seven different freshmen have played meaningful minutes so far, with at least four in the starting lineup in each of the last six matches, including a season high seven in the starting XI at Cal.
Leon Kondic scored the game-winner in the 90th minute at Kentucky. Jack Lewis assisted on Kondic's winner and tallied a winner of his own against Bellarmine. TJ Kahoalii and Chase Vazquez assisted on the Lewis goal, while Noah De Blasis (Jacksonville) and Kondic (Tulsa) also have assists on game-winning goals.
Defensively, De Blasis has started all 10 matches and Olayinka Ogunleye has started nine of 10. De Blasis has played a team-high 855 minutes this season, while Ogunleye has logged 756.
