No. 21 Louisville Opens ACC Play Hosting Cal

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The No. 21 University of Louisville men's soccer team opens Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday when the Cardinals welcome California to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff. The match will be broadcast on ACCNX.
Louisville enters the conference opener unbeaten at 5-0-1 following a 1-0 victory at Evansville on Monday. The Cardinals have won five of their first six matches while also earning a 1-1 draw against No. 14 Indiana.
The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 13-5 through six matches and have controlled possession and the attack throughout the early season. Louisville has outshot every opponent this season, holding a 95-46 advantage in shots and a 42-14 edge in shots on goal.
Giacomo Zizza has emerged as one of the nation's top offensive performers in his first season with the Cardinals. The junior midfielder leads Louisville with five goals and 11 points through six matches. Zizza has scored three game-winning goals this season, including the deciding goal in Louisville's wins over IU Indy, Kentucky and Evansville. His latest came in the 81st minute Monday at Evansville, when he curled a free kick into the top-right corner to give the Cardinals a 1-0 victory.

Sunday marks the first meeting between Louisville and Cal at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals own a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series, with the teams playing to a 3-3 draw in Berkeley on Oct. 3, 2024. Louisville's other meeting against Cal came at the 2000 Saint Louis Nike Classic, where the Cardinals earned a 3-0 victory.
Cal enters Sunday's match with a 2-0-3 record and a 0-0-1 mark in ACC play. The Golden Bears are led offensively by Junhwan Park, who has scored twice this season, while Lucca Guimaraes, Callen Lewis, Kai Oppenheim and Malcolm Zalayet have each added a goal.
