LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team makes its first ACC road trip to the West Coast on Thursday to take on Cal in Berkeley. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville notched a 1-1 draw at Boston College on Sunday. Gage Guerra scored the opening goal of the match, his first tally since the opening two matches.
Freshman goalkeeper AJ Piela recorded nine saves in Sunday's draw. It was the highest save total by a Louisville keeper this season and the most since Alex Svetanoff recorded 11 at Clemson last November.
The Cardinals are set to play their first match in the state of California since winning 1-0 at UC Davis on Nov. 24, 2019 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Cal have met just one time previously with the Cardinals securing a 3-0 victory over the Bears in a neutral-site match in St. Louis, Mo., in September of 2000.
EXAMINING LOUISVILLE TRENDS PAST THE HALFWAY POINT
Sunday's match at Boston College marked the start of second half of the regular season for Louisville. Here are some of the statistical trends for the Cards through nine matches:
GUERRA AMONG NATION'S TOP ACTIVE GOAL SCORERS IN 2024
Senior forward Gage Guerra has been one of the best goal scorers in the country during his college career.
Guerra tallied 15 goals in two seasons at Army before transferring to Louisville in 2023. He then immediately made his presence felt in The Ville with six goals in his first five matches. However, injuries derailed his junior season, limiting him to just seven tallies on the year.
The Houston native got off to a hot start for the 2024 season, scoring in each of the first two matches. Guerra now has 25 career goals after scoring at Boston College, tied for the 12th-most in Division I among active players.
