Christian Knapczyk, Tate Kuehner and Ryan Hawks were chosen on Monday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball program had three players chosen in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday.
Christian Knapczyk (Round 5, Pick 161, Cleveland Guardians), Tate Kuehner (Round 7, Pick 212, Milwaukee Brewers) and Ryan Hawks (Round 8, Pick 247, Seattle Mariners) were each chosen on day two of the draft.
Louisville has now had 102 selections since Dan McDonnell took over the program in 2007.
Knapczyk was a three-year starter at shortstop for the Cardinals. The junior played in 143 games in three seasons, posting a career batting average of .328 with 29 doubles, seven triples and three home runs. A three-time All-ACC selection, Knapczyk scored 137 runs in three years and swiped 43 bases.
Kuehner wrapped up his fourth season at Louisville this spring, serving as the closer for the Cardinals. The southpaw made 70 career appearances on the mound, tallying 15 wins and nine saves. Over 165.2 career innings, Kuehner recorded 193 strikeouts and limited opponents to just a .208 batting average.
Like Kuehner, Hawks also finished his fourth season in a Louisville uniform in 2023. The right-hander worked as Louisville's Friday night starter this spring, posting a 5-3 record with a 4.58 ERA. Hawks appeared in 47 games over three seasons, logging 130.2 innings on the bump with 149 strikeouts.
The 2023 MLB Draft wraps up on Tuesday with the final 10 rounds.
