Cardinals Send 20 to Finals after Day 3 Prelims at ACC Championships

Cards have two top seeds among nine A-finalists
GREENSBORO, NC -- The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team will send 20 Cardinals into the finals tonight at the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

In all, nine Cardinals will be swimming in the A-finals after prelims this morning.

In the 400 IM, three Cardinals earned second swims led by Abby Hay, who qualified second for the A final with a time of 4:07.34. The B-final will feature Rye Ulett, who went 4:16.67 and Jordan Durocher, who boarded a 4:17.39.

Two of the Cardinal men will be back for the finals, in the 400 IM led by Tommy Bried, who won his heat and qualified fifth overall with a time of 3:45.54. Jackson Millard will swim in the B-final after posting a 3:46.97 to qualify ninth overall.

The A-final of the 100 butterfly will have three Cardinals who earned second swims led by Gabi Albiero, who qualified first with a time of 50.72. Christiana Regenauer won her heat and will be back after going 51.07 and Tristen Ulett's 51.63 was fast enough to gain the A-final. Freshman Karoline Barrett will swim in the C-final, to help score points for the Cards.

In the men's 100 fly, Dalton Lowe powered to the A-final with a time of 45.65 with teammate Abdelrahman El-Araby making the C-final with a time of 46.76.

Five Cardinals advanced to the finals of the women's 200 freestyle led by Paige Hetrick's time of 1:45.39 and the No. 6 seed in the A-final. Madie Hall (1:46.66) and Fernanda Celidonio  (1:46.83) advanced to the B-final and Madison Luther (1:48.49) and Julia Dennis (1:48.04) moved to the C-final.

The Cardinal men also advanced five to the finals of the 200 freestyle led by Michael Eastman's time of 1:33.45, which makes him the top seed going into tonight's A-final. Joining him in the A-final will be Murilo Sartori, who went 1:33.86 in his prelim time. Denis Loktev (1:34.01 and Guy Brooks will swim in the B final and Gustavo Saldo will swim the C-final after stopping the clock at 1:35.67.
