No. 17/7 Cardinals Set to Host No. 7/9 Indiana and Cincinnati

Cards will swim IU on Friday and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday versus UC
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 17/7 ranked University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving will host two meets this weekend on Jan. 27 and 28 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Friday's meet against No. 7/9 ranked Indiana will start at 2 p.m. ET in a highly contested top-25 matchup. The Cardinals will host longtime rival Cincinnati on Saturday at noon with a senior day ceremony scheduled prior to the meet.  Â

The Cardinals are coming off a split performance against rival Kentucky, with the men winning 200-96 and the women falling 168-132.

The Cardinal men were powered by multiple event winners Dalton Lowe, Abdelrahman El-Araby and Denis Petrashov. Lowe won the 100 back, the 100 butterfly and was on both winning relays. El-Araby won the 50 free and was on both winning relays and Petrashov won both breaststroke events and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team.

The women were paced by Gabi Albiero's four wins: the 50 free, the 100 free and the 100 fly as well as the 200 medley relay. Abby Hay won the 200 fly, the 200 medley relay and had a second in the 200 IM.

The women's team sits at No. 7 in the CSCAA Rankings with 33 top 50 swims, six of which are in the top 10. All five of the women's relays are nationally ranked with four of the five placing in the top 7 in the nation. This is led by Gabi Albiero who is ranked sixth in the 100 free, eighth in the 100 fly, and 10th in the 50 free. Christiana Regenauer is tenth in both the 50 free and 100 fly. Distance swimmer Liberty Williams is ranked seventh in the 500 free.

The No. 17 ranked men's team has put up 16 top 50 performances this season with five events placing in the top 25. All five of the men's relays are nationally ranked as well. Abdelrahman El-Araby is ranked 21st in the 50 free while Dalton Lowe is 13th in the 50 fly. Distance swimmers Ilia Sibirtsev and Eli Shoyat are 19th and 20th respectively in the 1000 free while Sibirtsev also holds 18th place in the 1650 free.
