HARRISONBURG, Va. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team finished off the weekend away from home with a 0-0 draw against James Madison Sunday afternoon from Sentara Park. The Cardinals finished with a 2-0-1 record in the three games away from Lynn Stadium and will return home for their first home match in two weeks this coming week.
Neither team separated themselves over the first 45 minutes as the score stayed level at 0-0 at the half. The best chance for the Cardinals came in the 32nd minute on a build up play from Ravin Alexander.
Alexander played the ball up the right side to Morgan Bentley. Bentley crossed a pass back towards the center of the field for Corinne Dente. Dente beat a Dukes' defender and fired a shot that just went high of the cage and out of play.
In the second half, the Dukes had a couple of chances over the first 25 minutes but the Cardinals defense were able to rush the shots and they went high of goal.
In the 70th minute, Savina Zamborini broke towards the top of the box in between the Dukes defense. She created some room between the defenders and got off a shot at the top of the box that was deflected away by the JMU defense.
In the 83rd minute, Louisville almost capitalized on a James Madison turnover at midfield. Autumn Weeks forced the giveaway and laid the ball off to Emersen Jennings as she made a run into the box. Jennings sent a low shot that deflected off the far post and out of play.
Over the final minutes of play, James Madison and Louisville sent numbers forward in hopes of scoring the game-winner but nothing materialized as the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Freshman keeper Erynn Floyd notched her third clean sheet through five games this season.
The Cardinals return home for a two-game homestand from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium starting on Thursday, September 8, against Indiana. The Cardinals and Hoosiers will square off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Lynn and the match will be streamed on ACCNX.
