Cardinals and Hoosiers Finish with 0-0 Draw
September 08, 2022 | Women's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team (3-1-2) returned home for the first time in two weeks and ended up with a 0-0 draw against Indiana (1-0-4) Thursday night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. It was the second-straight game the Cardinals have not allowed a goal and the fourth time this season they have kept their opponent off the score sheet.
The Cardinals almost got on the board in the opening minute as they earned a corner kick off the opening kick off. Brooke Dardano sent the corner to the far post where Karsyn Cherry got above the Hoosiers defenders for the header but it went high of goal.
In the 14th minute, Savina Zamborini jumped on a Hoosier turnover and put a shot on goal while the Hoosiers keeper was out of position. Her shot was on frame but a Hoosiers defender saved the ball on the goal line and cleared it away to end the threat.
The best chance for the Cardinals came in the 39th minute as Addie Chester had a nice touch on a loose ball and played it up to Mackenzie Geigle. Geigle threaded a through ball up to Patricia Ward who was getting behind the Hoosier defense. She fired a shot on goal and it was saved over the crossbar by the Hoosiers keeper.
More of the same in the second half as there was a lot of possession between the two teams but not a lot of scoring chances.
Chester was in on the action once again in the second half and had the best chance of the entire game for Louisville. She broke towards the middle of the field and weaved in between a couple defenders. She found some space at the top of the box and got off a shot that was saved and deflected off the crossbar by the Hoosiers keeper.
The Cardinals will stay at home as they open ACC play next week. Louisville will be back in action on Saturday, September 17 against Miami from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals and Hurricanes will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
