SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Hannah Morris and Nicole Perroni combined for 11 goals, but University of Louisville lacrosse could not overcome a second half surge from the Orange and fell 23-13 at No. 4 Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.
Â
With the loss, the Cardinals move to 6-9 on the season, 1-6 in ACC play, while the Orange improve to 12-3 overall, 6-1 in the league play.
"For the first 30 minutes, we played really well and hung right in there with the No. 4 team in the country," said head coach Scott Teeter. "I got a yellow card in the second half, which really provided Syracuse with some momentum, and we had a hard time overcoming that, so I take full responsibility for today's loss. There were some positives today, I thought our defense played well, especially in the first half, but we have to improve on the draw and with our saves."
Â
Syracuse got on the board first, but back-to-back goals from Morris and Perroni gave the Cards an early 2-1 lead. The Orange got one more in the first to even the score 2-2.
Â
Louisville got off to a hot start in the second as Morris and Perroni went back-to-back for the second time to take a 4-2 advantage.
Â
The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair from there as the Cardinals and 'Cuse traded goals the rest of way. Morris and Perroni continued to carry the offense load, scoring two straight goals for the third time of the half to tie the contest at 7-7 before Syracuse netted a final goal of the half, sending the Cardinals into the locker room down 8-7.
Â
Perroni opened up the second half, tying the game 8-8, but Syracuse outscored the Cards 12-3 in the third quarter and would go on to win 23-13.
Â
Hannah Morris recorded a career-high tying six goals in the effort while also notching the 100th goal of her Louisville career.
Â
Nicole Perroni tallied a career-high tying five goals with one assist, extending her point streak to 17 games. Caroline Blalock added one goal and one assist as she continued her point streak, moving to 21 straight games. Paige Richbourg was the only other Cardinal to score, tallying one goal.
Â
Next up, Louisville will close out its final road trip of the regular season, staying in the state of New York to play Niagara on Monday, April 18Â at 12 p.m. ET.Â
