Blalock, Cardinals Cruise to 19-10 Victory at Niagara
April 18, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
NIAGARA, N.Y. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse cruised back into the win column with a 19-10 victory at Niagara on Monday afternoon.
With the win, Louisville improves to 7-9 on the season, while Niagara moves to 9-6.
"We got off to a bit of a slow start, but I thought we played really well in the final three quarters," said head coach Scott Teeter.
The Cards found themselves down 1-0 early, but quick goals from Caroline Blalock and Allegra Catalano put the cards on top with 8:23 remaining in the first quarter.
Louisville and Niagara traded goals deep into the first half until Blalock scored on a free position shot to tie the score 5-5 and kick off a 4-0 run to end the half and send the Cardinals into the locker room with an 8-5 lead.
UofL's offense stayed hot through halftime, ripping off five more goals to go on a 9-0 run to take a 13-5 lead with 8:36 left in the third quarter.
The Cardinals would put together one final four-goal scoring run to seal the game and take a 19-10 victory in their final road contest of the 2022 regular season.
Caroline Blalock led the Cards with a career-high seven goals, which ties for fourth all-time in a game in program history. The last player to score seven goals was Louisville assistant coach Kay Morissette on March 4, 2015.
Nicole Perroni led the team with a career-high nine draw controls, while scoring four goals. Hannah Morris added two goals and a career-high three assists with five other players scoring one goal each.
In addition, Caroline Blalock and Sarah Blalock played in their 76th game in a Louisville uniform, marking the most games played in program history.
"For Carol and Sarah to set the record for most games played together is pretty special," added Teeter. "They've been a huge part of this program for the past five years and I'm really happy for them."
Louisville outshot Niagara 48-26 and had 36 shots on goal to the Purple Eagles' 17. The Cardinals dominated the possession game, only turning the ball over nine times to Niagara's 21.
