Louisville Drops Road Matchup Against No. 10 Stanford

Cards fall 22-5 at No. 10 Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Louisville lacrosse team fell to No. 10 Stanford 22-5 in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Larid Q. Cagan Stadium.

Five different players scored for the Cards with Ella Berg and Reese Whiteman registering one apiece to stay tied for the team lead – each with 29 on the season. Charlotte Jackson, Mia Lusardi and Grayce Kitchen also finished with one tally each and Elizabeth Shean dished out an assist. Haley Richards finished with eight saves in net.

The Cardinal (11-2, 7-1) jumped to a 6-0 lead to open the game before Louisville broke through with back-to-back goals. Berg put the Cards (6-7, 2-6 ACC) on the scoreboard with 3:07 left on in the first quarter. Less than two minutes later, Jackson connected on a feed from Shean to make the score 6-2 to end the frame.

Stanford answered with five straight to start the second quarter before Mia Lusardi stopped the run with a free position goal. The Cardinal went on to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.Â

UofL struck first in the second half with a goal from Kitchen. The teams exchanged goals over the next six minutes with Louisville holding a 2-1 scoring advantage in the third quarter and as the Cards entered the final frame trailing 14-5.

Stanford took over in the fourth quarter, delivering eight unanswered goals to finish the game with a 22-5 win.

Overall, Stanford held a 30-11 advantage in shots on goal with Ava Arceri leading all scorers with six goals and one assist. The Cardinal also led in the circle by a margin of 18-12 edge as Olivia Scroggie earned a game high eight draw controls. Stanford forced 13 turnovers and committed 14 compared to 20 turnovers and six caused for Louisville. Â Stanford led 23-12 in ground balls with Avery Johnston collecting a team high three for UofL. The Cards converted 12 of their 14 clear attempts with Stanford completing 18 of 23.

Louisville will return to UofL Lacrosse Stadium to face No. 24 Pittsburgh in its home finale Saturday at noon.
