Cards Complete Day 1 at ACC Championships

Men in second; Women in 9th after first day
The 2022 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships are underway for Day 1 for the No. 7/10 Cardinals in Atlanta at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Pavilion. After a day of racing the Louisville men sit in second place and the women in ninth.Â
For the men, North Carolina has the lead with 105 points, followed by Louisville (102), Florida State (97), Virginia Tech (86), NC State (84), Georgia Tech (84), Pitt (75), Virginia (62), Duke (46), Boston College (43) and Miami (32). For the women, Miami leads with 119 points followed by Duke (111), UNC (96), UVA )96), Notre Dame (95), North Carolina State (81), Va. Tech (74), Georgia Tech (63, Louisville (61), Florida State (46), Pitt (40), Boston College (30).Â
WOMEN'S 1M DIVING

In 1M diving, Else Praasterink posted a score of 230.75 as the top Cardinal finisher and put UofL on the scoreboard with her 18th place. Â Riley Bullock boarded a 214.75.
MEN'S 3M DIVING

For the men in 3M diving, Che Stephens was just six points away from the finals, scoring 314.25 for ninth. Kivanc Gur was tenth with a 313.25 and Daniel Pinto was 17th with a 292.65 to score points for the Cardinals as the top 24 score. Adam Sneden boarded a 268.80.

WOMEN'S 800 FREE RELAYÂ
In the final heat of the 800 free relay, Louisville shaved nearly seven seconds off of last year's time to win bronze. UofL's Arina Openysheva led off with a split of 1:45.49 handing over fourth place to Paige Hetrick, who pushed the Cardinals to second with a split of 1:43.44 for freshman Polina Nevmovenko's 1:44.94 and third place. Anchor Alena Kraus went 1:46.75 for the Cards to post a 7:00.62. That was the 8th fastest relay time in school history and an NCAA A-Cut. The event was won by Virginia with a 6:53.37.Â

MEN'S 800 FREE RELAYÂ
The Louisville men set a school record as they won silver in 6:09.84 in the 800 free relay. Brazilian Olympian Murilo Sartori led off in 1:32.38, followed by Nick Albiero (1:31.82), Israeli Olympian Denis Loktev (1:33.28), and 2020 ACC 200 free champion Colton Paulson (1:32.37). Sartori's leadoff leg set a school freshman record. NC State won the men's 800 free relay as the team of Sam Hoover, Lukas Miller, Eric Knowles and Hunter Tapp won in a meet-record time of 6:08.35.Â
