May 20, 2021 | Baseball
The Cardinals and Hurricanes continues the series Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 18th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took a 6-1 loss in the series opener against Miami on Thursday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (27-19, 16-14 ACC) scored the opening run of the ballgame on Thursday, with Trey Leonard touching the plate on a wild pitch.
The rest of the scoring belonged to Miami (30-17, 18-15) however, as the Hurricanes tied the game up with a two-out run-scoring single.
The game would hold even at one through six innings, but the Hurricanes found separation over the final three frames. Miami struck for two in the seventh, two more in the eighth and another in the ninth to pull away while its bullpen took care of things on the mound.
The Cardinals managed just four hits on the night, with Leonard going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Luke Seed allowed one run on three hits over 3.2 innings before exiting. Evan Webster (1-1) worked three innings in relief with a pair of runs allowed and Garrett Schmeltz gave up three runs in 2.1 innings.
The three-game series continues on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
