May 21, 2021 | Baseball
A second-inning home run proved to be the difference on Friday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 18-ranked University of Louisville baseball team was held without a run in a 2-0 loss against Miami on Friday evening at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (27-20, 16-15 ACC) was shut out for the second time this season, managing just three hits on the night.
The Cardinals got strong pitching efforts from Jared Poland and Carter Lohman in the loss. Poland, making his first career start, allowed just two runs on four hits across five innings while tallying a career-best seven strikeouts.
Lohman took over to start the sixth inning and proceeded to keep the Hurricanes off the board over the final four innings.
Miami (31-17, 19-15) got all the offense it needed in the second inning with a leadoff single followed by a two-run home run that would account for the only runs of the evening.
Luke Brown, Dalton Rushing and Christian Knapczyk tallied the only hits of the evening for the Cardinals.
The regular season wraps up on Saturday for the finale of the series. First pitch is scheduled for noon ET.
