Cardinals Drop Regular Season Finale to Miami
May 22, 2021 | Baseball
Louisville finishes up the regular season at 27-21 overall.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The regular season came to a close for the University of Louisville baseball team with a 3-2 loss against Miami on Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville closes out the regular season at 27-21 overall and 16-16 in ACC play.
The Cardinals will now head to Charlotte for the 2021 ACC Championship. The tournament begins with pool play on Tuesday at Truist Field.
Louisville plated the first run on Saturday, cashing in on a free baserunner. Luke Brown was hit by a pitch and Alex Binelas laced a double into the right field corner to score Brown from first.
Miami (32-17, 20-15 ACC) quickly responded though, getting three runs across in the top of the fourth and it would prove to be all the Hurricanes needed on the day.
The Cardinals scratched a run across in the sixth with Trey Leonard bringing home a run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. However, a strikeout left the tying run standing on third base to end the inning.
Louisville put a runner on in each of the final three innings, including one in scoring position in the seventh and eighth, but was unable to find the hit it needed to push the tying run across.
Tate Kuehner (4-5) allowed three runs over 5.2 innings, striking out five. Adam Elliott retired all seven batters he faced and Michael Kirian set down the side in order in the ninth.
Cooper Bowman had the lone multi-hit game for the Cardinals, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
