No. 5 Cardinals Walk Off Florida State in Series Opener

Levi Usher singled home Christian Knapczyk for the 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Levi Usher singled home Christian Knapczyk with two outs in the 10th inning to give the fifth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team a 4-3 walk-off win over No. 17 Florida State on Friday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The game went to extra innings tied at three, but Florida State (15-11, 10-9 ACC) threatened to take the lead in the top of the 10th. With a runner on second and two outs, the Cardinals issued an intentional walk and then another walk to load the bases.
With a 1-1 count on the batter, Adam Elliott's pitch hit the elbow of the batter to force home the go-ahead run. However, the umpires reviewed the play and ruled the batter leaned into the pitch, bringing him back to the plate and keeping the game tied. Elliott then proceeded to strike out the hitter setting up the heroics in the bottom half.
Knapczyk led off the Louisville half of the 10th with a walk and moved up on a groundout. Another groundout moved him to third before Henry Davis was intentionally walked. Davis stole second to put both runners in scoring position and Usher delivered the game-winning hit.
Friday night started with a dominant showing from both starting pitchers. Michael Kirian struck out a pair in the first before sitting down all three batters in the second on strikes. Kirian faced the minimum through four and kept the Seminoles off the board for six innings.
Louisville (19-9, 11-4) had its own struggles at the plate early though, going scoreless through the first five innings. In the sixth, Luke Brown singled off the pitcher to score Knapczyk to break the scoreless tie and Alex Binelas followed with a run-scoring single of his own. A wild throw on Binelas' single got away at third and allowed Brown to score a third run.
The lead was short-lived though, as Florida State got a RBI double and a two-run homer in the seventh to immediately tie the game back up.
Elliott (5-1) picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief. Kirian received a no-decision, allowing three runs over seven innings and struck out 10 for his third double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
The series continues on Saturday, but the first pitch time has been changed. Saturday's game has been pushed back to 5 p.m. ET due to inclement weather in the forecast.
