Florida State scored five in the eighth to secure the victory.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A five-run eighth inning was the difference on Saturday night as the fifth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team dropped an 8-5 game to No. 17 Florida State at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (19-10, 11-5 ACC) held a 4-3 lead entering the eighth inning, but the Seminoles scored five in the frame and held on for the win.
Florida State (16-11, 11-9) hit a solo home run in the second and added a RBI single in the fourth and held a 2-0 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
Cooper Bowman led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and a pair of walks to Henry Davis and Cameron Masterman loaded the bases with one out. Alex Binelas then hammered the first pitch he saw well out of the ballpark to right-centerfield for his first career grand slam.
FSU got a run back in the sixth, but still trailed by a run before the five-run eighth.
Binelas hit his second home run of the game in the ninth for his third career multi-homer game of his career, his second against Florida State. He finished the game 2-for-5 and drove in all five runs.
The series wraps up with the rubber game on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
