
Cardinals Stay in Third After Day 3 at ACC Championships

Three Podiums highlight Friday's swims
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Louisville Cardinals stayed in third place after three days of competing at the 2020 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

University of Virginia leads the field with 1,001.5 points followed by  North Carolina State (888) Louisville (745.5) , UNC (567), Notre Dame (531), Duke (462.5), Florida State (417), Virginia Tech (297) Georgia Tech (261.5), Miami (231) , Pitt (224) and Boston College (134).

In the first race of the evening, Grace Oglesby put up a time of 51.74 for a bronze medal time, an invited time in '19, to reach the podium. In the 100 Butterfly B-Final, Nastja Govejsek finished second with a 52.78. Alena Kraus touched in 52.95 for fourth and Christiana Regenauer went 53.02 for 5th also in the B-Final.

Freshman Abigail Hay shaved more time off her 400 IM with a time of 4:09.48 in the A-Final. The time is faster than last year's invited time!Duda Sumida finished second in the B-final of the 400 IM with a 4:11.49, shaving almost four seconds off her prelim time and got a B-Cut.Carley Lowe finished the 400 IM in 4:16.74 in the B-Final for 8th place. Sophie Cattermole was third in the C-final of the 400 IM with a time of 4:16.59

Arina Openysheva won a silver medal in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.24, a time that is faster that the invited time from '19. Alena Kraus was sixth also in the A-final of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.34 for a B-cut. Madison Luther turned in a 1:48.66 in the C-final for seventh place.

In the A-Final of the 100 breaststroke, Mariia Astashkina boarded a 59.98 for fourth place. Teammate Kaylee Wheeler went 1:00.06 to touch sixth in the A-final. Morgan Friesen turned in a 1:00.12 in the 100 Breast to finish seventh in the A-Final. Avery Braunecker won the C-Final of the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.22

In the C-final of the 100-backstroke, Lainey Visscher went 53.81 for a B-cut time.

Kivanc Gur took 8th in the platform diving for the Cardinals with a score of 298.15 in the Finals.

In the final event of the evening, the 400 medley relay, the foursome of Ashlyn Schoof (53.41), Kaylee Wheeler (58.93), Grace Oglesby (51.10) and Casey Fanz (47.67) to put up a 3:31.11 to win a bronze medal.
Tomorrow will wrap up the meet when the Cardinals will compete in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, Women's Platform, 1650 freestyle and the 400 free relay.Â
