
Cardinals Set for Top-25 Matchup at Missouri

The No. 6/8 Cards will battle No. 17/19 Missouri on Thursday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After nearly a two month hiatus from competition, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool for a midweek matchup against Missouri. Competition is slated to begin Thursday at noon (1 p.m. EST) inside the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo.
About the Cardinals
Last time out, the eighth-ranked Louisville men turned in a third place finish at the IU Invitational. The Cardinals posted a number of season best times and were led by Marcelo Acosta who earned a victory in the 500 free with a time of 4:17.43. Evgenii Somov also registered strong swims for the Cardinals with a pair of second place finishes in the 100 (53.20) and 200 (1:56.42) breast.
In diving, Daniel Fecteau was the Cardinals' top performer. The senior took second on the platform with a score of 321.70. He also recorded two third place showings on the 1-meter (322.40) and 3-meter (355.30).
The No. 6 Louisville women finished second overall at the IU Invitational, led by Grace Oglesby who took first and set lifetime best times in both the 100 (50.75) and 200 (1:52.64) fly. Mallory Comerford also added two individual wins for the Cardinals in the 50 (21.88) and 100 free (47.04). Molly Fears was the Cards' top diver, registering victories on the 1-meter (273.25) and 3-meter (317.85).
The Cardinals have a number of swims that rank among the top-10 in the nation at the midway point of the season. Comerford holds four top-10 marks with the No. 3 times in the 100 (46.96) and 200 (1:42.79) free, the No. 6 time in the 100 fly (50.94) and the No. 7 time in the 50 free (21.88). Oglesby's 100 and 200 fly from the IU Invitational each rank fourth nationally. All five of Louisville's relays rank among the top-10, led by the No. 4 400 medley relay (3:30.55).
About Missouri
Last time out, the No. 17 Missouri men finished first among 11 teams at the Mizzou Invite. Nick Alexander led the Tigers with a school record in the 100 back (45.93) and posted three individual event victories (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM). Senior Mikel Schreuders also secured multiple individual event wins in the 100 free (42.76) and 200 free (1:33.54).
The No. 19 Missouri women also won the Mizzou Invite, beating out 12 other programs. The Tigers earned a number of individual wins throughout the three day meet, and the 200 free relay team of Annie Ochitwa, Haley Hynes, Megan Keil and Sarah Thompson captured an NCAA A cut with a time of 1:28.38.
Five Tigers rank among the top-10 nationally in their respective events. On the men's side, Alexander holds the No. 6 time in the 200 back (1:39.98) and No. 7 time in the 200 IM (1:43.04). Schreuders also holds two top-10 times with the No. 7 mark in the 100 free (42.30) and No. 10 time in the 200 free (1:33.54). Rounding out the Tiger men is Alex Walton in the 400 IM with the ninth-ranked time of 3:44.03.
For the women, Hynes is third in the 100 back with a time of 51.24, while Ochitwa ranks eighth in the 100 fly with a 51.37.
