Cardinals Open 2018 Season Against Wright State

Cardinals play the first of two home games this weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team kicks off the 2018 season on Thursday evening, welcoming Wright State to Lynn Stadium at 7:30 p.m. for the first of two consecutive home matches.
Louisville returns nine starters from last year's squad that finished with an overall record of 9-7-2. Preseason All-ACC selection Emina Ekic will headline the Cardinals' offense alongside Brooklyn Rivers and Allison Whitfield. Ekic was Louisville's leading scorer in 2017, tallying seven goals and 17 points. Rivers and Whitfield were the second and third leading scorers for the Cards, adding four goals apiece and 11 and 10 points respectively.
Defensively, the Cards return starting keeper Gabby Kouzelos, who registered 50 saves and eight shutouts throughout the 2017 season. Centerback Gabrielle Vincent will also be a key role-player after holding Louisville's opponents to 1.07 goals and 9.2 shots last season.
Scouting Wright State
The Raiders are coming off a fourth place finish in the Horizon League, where they recorded an overall record of 12-8 and went 6-3 in conference play. Horizon League second team selections Aaliyah Patten and Mattie Cutts will lead the Raiders' offense after each scoring 12 points apiece during the 2017 season. Head coach Pat Ferguson enters his 14th year at the helm looking for his 12th winning season with the Raiders.

Wright State leads the series 12-3-1 over Louisville. The Cards won the last meeting 2-1 on August 2, 2015 at Lynn Stadium.
