Stowers named Third Team All-American by D1Baseball, NCBWA; Wolf adds NCBWA Second Team All-America honor
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Individual honors for the University of Louisville baseball team continued to roll in on Wednesday as outfielder Josh Stowers and lefthanded pitcher Adam Wolf each added a pair of 2018 All-America accolades.
Stowers received his first career All-America recognition as the junior was named as a Third Team selection by both D1Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). He was also selected for the American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team. Wolf, named as a Baseball America Third Team All-American on May 31, was tabbed Wednesday as a NCBWA Second Team selection and was a Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American.
A native of Westchester, Illinois, Stowers was an All-ACC First Team selection hitting .336 with nine home runs, 60 RBIs, 14 doubles, 72 runs scored, 52 walks and 36 stolen bases in 43 attempts this season. Selected 54th overall in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, Stowers closed his third collegiate season by reaching base safely in 47 consecutive games, the longest streak for the Cardinals since the 2000 season. The 36 stolen bases in 2018 rank as the sixth highest single season total in school history. In his three-year career at Louisville, Stowers hit .323 with 60 stolen bases (eighth most in school history), 126 runs scored and 96 RBIs in 147 games played.
Chosen in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, Wolf closed his third collegiate season with an 8-2 record, 2.63 ERA, 109 strikeouts and only 29 walks in 102.2 innings pitched and 16 starts for the Cardinals. The 105 strikeouts are the ninth highest single season total in school history. The native of Milan, Ohio and All-ACC Second Team honoree allowed three or fewer earned runs in 13 of his 16 outings this season. During his three-year career with the Cardinals, Wolf had a 14-2 record with a 2.41 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 157.0 innings pitched.
In 12 seasons under the guidance of head coach Dan McDonnell, the Louisville baseball program has produced 37 All-American selections, including three this season with Stowers, Wolf and Logan Wyatt (Collegiate Baseball Third Team). The Cardinals have earned at least one All-America honor in seven consecutive seasons, including a school record seven All-Americans in 2016.
The Louisville baseball team closed its 2018 season with a 45-19 record overall after advancing to the championship round of an NCAA Regional for the seventh straight season. Louisville also registered its seventh straight 40-win season and the 11th in 12 seasons under McDonnell.
