ABOUT THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
Louisville enters the week following its second straight series loss after dropping two of three to No.10 Clemson last weekend. It marked the first time the Cardinals have lost back-to-back weekend series since 2011 when they lost series at Seton Hall (May 5-7) and at UConn (May 13-14). After winning their first 14 games of 2018 for the third best start in school history, the Cardinals have lost six of 10 contests since. The nation's last unbeaten team for the second straight year, the Cardinals are ranked as high as 10th in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll.
Sophomore Logan Wyatt has a .353 average with one homer, 20 RBIs, 11 doubles and 27 walks to pace the offense. Junior infielder Devin Mann is hitting .300 with two home runs, 27 RBIs, 24 walks and 21 runs scored. Three different Cardinals have 11 or more stolen bases as Jake Snider is 13-for-15, Tyler Fitzgerald is 11-of-12 and Josh Stowers is 11-for-13.
The pitching staff is led by All-American righty Sam Bordner, who has eight saves, a 1-0 record and a 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings this season. The junior has allowed just three earned runs in his last 55.2 innings (0.48 ERA). The weekend rotation is paced by junior lefthander Adam Wolf, who has a 3-1 record, 1.66 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 38.0 innings while starting each of the first six series-openers for the Cardinals.
Louisville is guided by head coach Dan McDonnell, who is in his 12th season in The Ville following a record-setting campaign in 2017 when the Cardinals ranked fifth in every major national poll after advancing to the College World Series for the fourth time in school history. UofL set a school record for wins with a 53-12 mark and earned the program's third straight ACC Atlantic Division title.
ABOUT THE CINCINNATI BEARCATS
Cincinnati enters the week at 10-12 overall and 1-2 in the American Athletic Conference after dropping two of three games at Tulane last weekend. The Bearcats are led by head coach Scott Googins, who is in his first season at UC after previously guiding Xavier, which lost to the Cardinals in the 2017 NCAA Regional final at Jim Patterson Stadium. Last season, Cincinnati was 28-30 overall and sixth in the American with a 10-14 record.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville leads 98-81 in the all-time series with Cincinnati, which dates back to 1924. The most frequently played series in school history, the Cardinals have won 19 of the last 22 against the Bearcats. Cincinnati won last year's meeting earning a 6-3 decision at Marge Schott Stadium to end Louisville's 19-game season-opening winning streak. The Cardinals won 7-1 on May 3, 2016 in Cincinnati's most recent visit to Jim Patterson Stadium.
