Former Cardinal Erin Yenney will join the team in Houston for the season opener
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Â The Red Stars have signed former University of Louisville standout Erin Yenney as a National Team Replacement player, replacing Sam Kerr. She will join the rest of the Red Stars in Houston when they take on the Dash this Sunday for opening weekend.
National Team Replacement players can be signed when a National Team Player is away on international duty and will not count against the team's 20-player roster limit. The league is home to many of the top women's soccer players in the world today including Megan Rapino, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan, Julie Ertz, and Marta, among others.Â
Â
Yenney enjoyed a stellar playing career at UofL, earning multiple Big East accolades and serving as team captain during her in time in Louisville. She earned a master's degree in engineering from the prestigious UofL Speed School and then began her professional playing career. She spent time in Sweden for a season before joining Colombian side Santa Fe, where she was a part of the league champion's team, in the inaugural season of the Liga Águila Femenina (Colombian Professional Women's Football League).
The Red Stars will kick off the 2018 season on the road in Houston on Sunday, March 25, at 4:00 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast live on NWSLsoccer.com, the NWSL app and the go90 app.
