
Men's Swimming Sits in 8th at NCAAs After Day 3 Finals

Cards make the podium three times
The University of Louisville Cardinals made the podium three times on Day 3 of competition at the 2018 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

After three days of racing the Cardinals sit in 8th place. Indiana moved into the top spot with 325, followed by Texas (306), Cal (291.5), NC State (252), Florida (246),, Southern California (181), Stanford (165), Louisville (118.5), Michigan (101) and Georgia (98).

Zach Harting finishes 7th in the B-final of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:34.00. The event was won by Texas's Townley Haas, who set an American record with a 1:29.50.

Evgenii Somov finished 7th in the A final of the 100 breaststroke with a 52.07, shaving .21 off his qualifying time. Carlos Claverie finished third in the B-final of the 100 breaststroke, posting a 52.36! He tied for 11th and HM All American honors. The event was won by Indiana's Ian Finnerty became the first swimmer to go under 50 seconds in history with a 49.69.

Nick Albiero touched sixth in the 100 back in 45.16 to earn All American Honors. His prelim time of 45.05 made him the 2nd-fastest 17-18 year old in history, behind former Cal swimmer, Ryan Murphy, who swam a 44.63 in 2014 at his first NCAA Championship meet and was a gold medallist in the Rio Games in 2016.

In the 200 medley relay, Nicolas Albiero (21.28), Carlos Claverie (23.30), Zach Harting (20.50), Andrej Barna (18.76) put together a 1:23.84 to finish seventh and earn All-American honors.   Â
The Cardinals will have their final day of prelims on Saturday with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay, 1650 freestyle and the 400 free relay.
