Men's Swimming Is 10th After Day Two Finals at NCAAs

Cards field four finals in fast session
The University of Louisville men sit in tenth after the second day of competition at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

Indiana (169) holds a slim lead over NC State (165)Â followed by Texas (159) Â Florida (154), Â Cal (152.5), Stanford (116), USC (79), Michigan (70), Georgia (64), and Louisville rounding out the top ten with 62 points.

UofL had two individual finalists and both relays in the hunt this evening.Â

The Cards went 1:17.35 in the 200 Free Relay, put up by Nick Albiero (19.69), Andrej Barna (18.93), Zach Harting (19.25), Matyi Kovacs (19.48) in the B-final to finish 15th. The event was won by Florida with a time of 1:14.39 powered by a split of 17.81 by Caeleb Dressel. Â

Marcelo Acosta crushed his own school record in the 500 free, shaving two full seconds off his prelim time to win the B-final with a time of 4:11.61. The event was won by Texas's Townley Haas, who led wire to wire, and put up a time of 4:08.60 for gold.

Andrej Barna clocked in at 19.50 in the B final of the 50-free to finish 8th. The event was won by Caeleb Dressel, who boarded a 17.63 beating the runnerup by a full second and shattered the NCAA, American and U.S. Open records.

In the 400 Medley Relay, Nicolas Albiero (45.43), Carlos Claverie (51.51), Zach Harting (45.21), and Andrej Barna (42.22) combined for 3:04.37.

Competition resumes tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET with the prelims for the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and the 200 Medley Relay.
