This week features former standout Erin Yenney
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Erin Yenney came to the University of Louisville from Troy, Ohio in 2011. Over the course of her four-year career as a Cardinal she would impact the Louisville Women's Soccer Program in a variety of ways both on and off the field.
In her freshman campaign Yenney started all 24 games for the Cards connecting for two goals and adding three assists. Her first goal would prove to be a special one coming at Notre Dame in a 1-0 win, the first ever victory for the Cards over the Irish. She dished out an assist in Louisville's NCAA Second Round Tournament win at No. 5 Memphis. The victory over Memphis would propel the Cardinals to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Yenney's went on to earn All Big East Rookie team honors and on a team level would see the Cards earn their first ever Big East Championship, making her freshman year a special year.
Following a record beaking year in 2011, Yenney would score four goals, including a team-high three game-winners, and collect three assists in her sophomore season.
Yenney and the Cardinals would return to NCAA Tournament play in 2013 after barely missing out in 2012 despite a strong record and finish in the Big East. Yenney would start all 19 games for the Cardinals in 2013 recording 14 points on six goals and two assists. At one point in the year Yenney scored goals in three straight games, the final of that stretch, was a game at rival Cincinnati. In that game the Cardinals would mount an astonishing 4-3 comeback after going down 2-0 early. Yenney would grab the memorable winner in overtime on a game-winning penalty kick to defeat the Bearcats. The 2013 season for Yenney would conclude with All-American Athletic Conference honors and trip the NCAA Tournament for the second time in her career.
Yenney's final season was notably the first for UofL in the daunting Atlantic Coast Conference. Yenney would lead the Cardinals in 2014 as the senior captain and would memorably score the Cardinals first ever ACC goal in the conference opener at home against Syracuse.
In her four year career as a Cardinal, Yenney no doubt established herself as one of the all-time great players to ever wear the red and black for Louisville.
Following her time at UofL, Yenney moved into the professional ranks playing in Sweden for a year before transferring to Colombian First Division side Santa Fe where she spent this past season. In her first season with the club she would help guide them to the Colombian League Championship.
