
Former Cardinals Erin Yenney and Chinyelu Asher Playing in Colombia's First Women's Professional League

Yenney and Asher reunite on the soccer field in Columbia with the Independiente Santa Fe
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Former University of Louisville women's soccer standouts Erin Yenney and Chinyelu Asher were named to the Independiente Santa Fe women's team. This is the first season for the women's professional team, which is part of the first women's professional league in Colombia.
The first year league is called Liga Águila Feminina and consists of 16 teams total, many coming from current professional men's clubs in Colombia. The Independiente Santa Fe men's team are the reigning Colombian National Champions.
The Santa Fe women's squad includes current national team players from Colombia, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Jamaica (Chinyelu).
Yenney was a four-year starter for the Cardinals. She earned all-conference honors her freshman and junior seasons. She finished her career with 13 goals and nine assists for 35 points. She was a member of the Athletic Director's honor roll for three straight years as well as a Red and Black Scholar. She also served as a member of the student athlete advisory committee.
Asher spent one season with the Cardinals, transferring from Purdue. She made an immediate impact in her final season with the Cardinals, starting in the midfield all 18 matches. She finished the season with one goal and one assist. In her three seasons at Purdue she scored nine goals and dished out eight assists for 26 points.
Asher and Yenney joined the team in Colombia on February 7 during the team's preseason, which started in January. The team opened up the season on Feb. 19 and have currently won three matches in a row.
The will conclude in June.
