
Women’s Soccer Kicks off 2016 Season at Indiana on Friday

Cardinals look to build on momentum from last season in 2016
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's soccer team will open up the 2016 season at Indiana on Friday night. The Cardinals and the Hoosiers will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
After two exhibition games in the books, the new look Cardinals are ready for the season. Louisville returns 12 players including eight starters returning from last season. Among the key returnees are All-ACC goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin. Inger Katrine Bjerke and Gabrielle Vincent will anchor the Cardinals defense at centerback. Alison Price will return to the midfield again this season to lead the Cardinals. In addition to the core of veterans returning, Louisville welcomes 15 talented newcomers who will be instrumental in the team's success in 2016.
The Hoosiers were picked to finish 12th in the Big Ten Conference. The finished last season with a 3-10-6 overall record. They return three preseason Big Ten selection in senior defender Marissa Borschke, senior defender Veronica Ellis and junior forward Kayla Smith.
The Cardinals finished the 2015 campaign with an 8-8-2 overall record and finished the home season with a 5-3-1 record. The Cardinals defeated top ranked North Carolina at Lynn Stadium last year in overtime, marking the biggest win in program history. The Cardinals are looking to carry the momentum into the 2016 season.
The Cardinals will kick off the 2016 home season on Sunday, Aug. 21 against Indiana State at 1:00 p.m. in Lynn Stadium.
