Corey Ray drives in Colby Fitch with two-out double in the ninth inning to clinch 5-4 victory
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior outfielder Corey Ray delivered a two-out, RBI double in the ninth inning to score sophomore catcher Colby Fitch and lift Adam's Army to a 5-4 victory over McGrath's Marines in Game 2 of the 10th annual Pizza Bowl on Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
After Fitch singled earlier in the inning for his third hit of the game, Ray capped a great day at the plate with the game-winning RBI to even the five-game intra-squad series at one game each. Ray finished the afternoon 4-for-6 with three RBI, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Fitch was 3-for-4 with a double and scored three times, while sophomore infielder Devin Hairston was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the win.
On the mound, junior righty Jake Sparger worked two innings of shutout relief to earn the victory, while sophomore righthander Lincoln Henzman delivered a scoreless frame in the bottom of the ninth to earn the save for the Army. Senior righty Kyle Funkhouser received a no-decision after striking out five and allowing four runs in 5.2 innings.
The Marines, who opened the Pizza Bowl series with a 9-3 win on Saturday, were led at the plate on Sunday by junior catcher Will Smith, who was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Junior infielder Nick Solak chipped in going 3-for-5 with a double and scored once. On the mound, sophomore lefty Brendan McKay finished with nine strikeouts and allowed two runs in 4.2 innings for the no-decision.
The Pizza Bowl will continue with Game 3 on Wednesday at 3 p.m., ET, while Game 4 is slated for Saturday at 5 p.m. The Cardinals will conclude the Pizza Bowl and close their fall scrimmage schedule on Sunday at 1 p.m., with Game 5 of the series.

ABOUT THE PIZZA BOWL
Upon his hiring as Louisville head coach in the summer of 2006, Dan McDonnell immediately created an atmosphere of competition throughout the Cardinals baseball program. Whether it's through conditioning in the Omaha Challenge, or in preseason scrimmages, McDonnell believes in creating competitive situations to give his players numerous opportunities to prepare for what they will see during conference and postseason games.
One of the most effective ways McDonnell and his coaching staff can provide the Louisville players with those competitive, game-like situations is through the annual Pizza Bowl series. Following approximately six weeks of fall practice sessions, the Cardinals take to the field for what started as a one-game scrimmage in the fall of 2006 and has become an ultra-competitive three-game or five-game intra-squad series. The winning team is rewarded by being served as much pizza as it would like by the losing squad, which in turn shares what is left. The Pizza Bowl series has become an exciting and highly anticipated ending to the fall for Louisville coaches, players and fans.
