Louisville Senior OF/1B Stewart Ijames
"Last year, I didn't have the season I wanted to and one of the big reasons for that was that I was rushing too much. I forced some things and tried to make things happen. This year, I'm trying to let the game come to me. I'm trying to see more pitches. I'm trying to slow the game down and be more patient."
(On stealing home on the failed squeeze play) "My first reaction when I saw that we didn't get the bunt down was `oh no!' Once I saw the ball on the ground and bounce away from the catcher, I knew I had all of my momentum so I just kept on going. Luckily, I was able to slide around the tag and it was the first time I've ever stolen home."
(On what the team has done well in the current five-game winning streak) "We're really competing. Oakland was really scrappy today, but we were able to answer every challenge they had in those last two or three innings. That's what good clubs do. They'll do whatever they can to win an inning. It's a big momentum changer to be able to answer what they do in the top of the inning with runs in the bottom."
Louisville Junior RHP Matt Koch
(On his performance on Saturday) "I felt okay today. I didn't have all of my pitches working and didn't have everything going the way I wanted to, but I had to battle and throw strikes and give our team a chance to win."
(On his longest outing since May 2011) "That's the most pitches I've thrown in a long time, but I felt good. I was a little tired towards the end, but I'm glad I could finish it out so we could keep our bullpen fresh for tomorrow."
(On what the team needs to improve upon moving forward) "We need to play a complete nine innings. We're playing well at times, but we're also being a little too inconsistent. We must play a complete game in order to become the team we want to be."
