Louisville Team Notes
- Louisville extended its winning streak over USF to six games, tied for its fifth-longest active streak over a Division I opponent. Morehead State (11 straight) is the victim of the Cards' longest current string.

- The Cards have won 10 of the last 11 matchups with USF, who leads the all-time series 37-29. The Bulls have plated more than four runs just three times during that stretch.
- In Louisville's current seven-game home win streak against USF, the Cards are outscoring the Bulls 39-13. South Florida has not defeated U of L in Louisville since April 27, 2007 (10-4).
- With the win, Louisville clinched its eighth straight BIG EAST series win at home. U of L has not lost a league set at Jim Patterson Stadium since the Fighting Irish took two of three from April 24-26, 2009. The Cardinals have now won 10 of their last 11 BIG EAST series overall.
- Louisville has now taken each of its past four series with the Bulls.
- The Cardinals went error-free for the first time in 12 games on Friday, improving to 9-1 this season when committing no errors. Louisville fielded .940 with 25 errors during the 11-game error streak.
- Louisville emerged with a 1-0 lead after an inning of play for the second straight game. The Cards entered the series having been outscored 33-9 on the season in the opening frame.
- Louisville is 16-4 when scoring first in 2011.
- U of L gave up two earned runs or less for the 22nd time in 38 games this year and had its starting pitcher yield at most two earned tallies for the 29th time.
Louisville Player Notes
- Starter Justin Amlung notched his 10th straight quality start (6.0 innings or more, three earned runs or fewer) on Friday, the longest streak by a Cardinal hurler over the last 11 seasons. The previous high over that span was a string of eight in a row by Zack Pitts from March 2-April 20, 2007.
- Amlung's quality start streak is the second-longest active string in the BIG EAST, trailing only the 11-game streak for UConn's Matt Barnes.
- Amlung has allowed two earned runs or fewer in all 10 of those starts, also the longest streak by a Cardinal since 2001 and the longest active streak in the conference (Barnes is next with a current eight-game run). Pitts allowed two earned runs or less in the last seven starts of his eight-game quality-start streak in 2007, the longest prior stretch for a Louisville pitcher in the past 11 seasons.
- Amlung is also the first Cardinal starting pitcher to begin the year 7-0 since 2001. He has won 12 of his last 13 decisions dating back to last season.
- Should Amlung win his next decision, he would join Neil Holland (8-0 start last season) as the only Louisville pitchers to win eight straight games to start a season in the last 12 years.
- Amlung did not yield an earned run in the first inning for the 16th time in his past 17 starts. West Virginia has been the only team to score an earned run off of the righty over that span, plating two on April 2 of this season.
- Amlung set career highs in both walks and strikeouts in the game, handing out five free passes but fanning eight. The eight Ks tie for the most by a Cardinal hurler since Thomas Royse punched out 11 in 8.0 shutout innings at Georgetown last year (May 7).
- Over his last six outings, Amlung has 37 strikeouts in 41.0 innings, punching out at least six in five of those games.
- Senior J.J. Ethel has hit .533 (8-for-15) in his last five appearances at Jim Patterson Stadium, finishing Friday's game 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. The multi-RBI game was his first since April 20 of last season, when he smacked a go-ahead, pinch-hit, three-run home run at Notre Dame.
- For Wright, it was another day and another feast at the hands of USF pitching, as the junior upped his career batting average against the Bulls to .500 (12-for-24) and his career RBI total to 11 in six games. Over the last four alone, Wright has gone 10-for-18 (.556) with two doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI.
- Wright became the first Cardinal to homer twice in a game since Adam Duvall did so at Notre Dame on May 22, 2010, and the first to do it at home since Stewart Ijames on May 16. It was Wright's first career multi-homer game.
- Wright has collected three straight multiple-hit games, batting .636 (7-for-11) over that span. In the past two alone, Wright is 5-for-7 with five RBI.
- Wright's steal in the game was his 14th successful try in his last 15 stolen base attempts. He needs just two steals to reach the Cardinal career top 10, sitting 33-for-39 (.846) in his three seasons after Friday's contest.
- After collecting just one RBI in his previous 15 games, senior Drew Haynes has collected three in the first two games of the series, notching a fourth-inning sacrifice fly on Friday.
- Haynes' stolen base was the 41st of his career, tying him for sixth on the Louisville all-time list with Jeff Arnold (2007-10). Seven more steals will move Haynes into a tie for fifth with Dave Williams, Jr. (2000-03).
- Freshman Chad Green tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to lower his career ERA at Jim Patterson Stadium to 0.66 in 13.2 innings.
